This week at the Empty Glass [02 Feb 2006|12:28am]

1.Thursday: Ampline ~ Ampline doesn't have a vocalist, and they don't need one. They play thoughtful, mesmerizing indie rock that weaves interesting fibers together into a vibrant, enveloping blanket of sound.

2.Friday: Jesse Payne and Amy Loftus ~ Jesse Payne's music is a natural blend of punk and folk music underneath storylines of love, loss, and regret. Amy Loftus is an artist. She has been a painter, a professional actress and dancer, and has been singing and writing since she hopped onstage with a local band. Her voice has been called “nothing short of spiritual.”

3.Saturday: Threefold Theory with Concrete Theory ~ Threefold Theory is a rock band without borders. With far too many influences to cite, Threefold Theory can run the gamut of musical genres at the drop of a hat. Calling themselves North Carolina RockCore, Concrete Theory is a 5-piece modern rock band based out of Lexington, North Carolina.

4.Sunday: Super Bowl Sunday! Followed by a Post-Mountain Stage Jam with The Carpenter Ants: Today's MS Live Taping features John Jorgenson Quintet, Joy Lynn White, Martha Wainwright, Chocolate Genius, Kevin Gordon, and the Winterpills! Come join your hosts The Carpenter Ants to see who joins up to jam!

World Premiere of Local Film [13 Dec 2005|12:48am]

Thursday December 15, 2005 9 pm at theemptyglass

Join us for the Charleston Premiere of "Vampire Whores from Outer Space".

"Some People Just Suck"

When a spaceship full of female vampires lands on Earth, it's up to a couple of high-school sweethearts, a pair of backalley abortionists, and a ton of demented law enforcement officers to stop them.

Featuring a soundtrack packed with kick-ass music from artists such as The Pistol Whippers, Lords of the Highway, and Pinky.

Starring Lance Steele, Meghan McDowell, Brian Gunnoe, Johnny Pubis, Diana Burton, and a host of sultry vampiric vixens!

Written & Directed by Eamon Hardiman.

Be Dressed to Kill.

Please, if you are local, come support Noizbox at the Empty Glass.

Friday is a busy night in town, and a chance that whatever your music taste, something will appeal.

Threefold Theory are playing at the Sound Factory, the awesome Pistol Whippers are at the Blue Parrot (and PW fans are Noizbox fans too and they usually support each other which will be more difficult on Friday), and of course Noizbox. They haven't played at The Glass in ages, so, if you are interested in local music, and want an evening good music, a relaxing atmosphere, and great drinks, be there. It still stuns me that people haven't heard of them, or even if they have heard of them, have never seen them play.

Rewards for being in this town are few, bands get next to nothing, but they do it for their love of music, and they do it for the people, even if it's a few, who come and watch them. If the people watching are happy, then they are happy.

Actually no, don't go to see them, I want them all to myself. Noizbox = MY anti-drug.

MINE! /selfishness.

See you there. If not, oh well, at least I've tried, and the only one that suffers any loss, is the one that doesn't come out ;)

Question... [31 Jul 2005|08:53pm]
I'm getting ready to move up to Parkersburg within the next month, & I'm planning on getting either a tattoo or a piercing.

Has anyone ever gotten work done at The Lure in Parkersburg? I've been in the place, but only with my cousins when they got their ears pierced. I didn't really get a chance to see their work or anything. I was just wondering the quality of their tattoos & piercings, cause I don't want my first tattoo or piercing to be shitty, ya know?

Any help would be appreciated!

What are you doing this weekend? [29 Jul 2005|10:20am]

I have a few suggestions

Friday afternoon/evening you may want to check out Live on the Levee! My organization the YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program (and others) will be selling 50/50 raffle tickets to benefit area homeless programs (including ours). You could win some serious dough! Bands start at 6:30 pm and today's is Mother's Nature. Come buy a ticket from me!

Friday night why not come to the Empty Glass and enjoy Phat Phunktion? This is a massive, jazzy, retro-funk band with eight members and a sound comparable to The Average White Band, WAR, and Earth, Wind, and Fire. The Phat packs an enormous punch with four powerful horns, four accomplished vocalists, and a vise-tight rhythm section.

Saturday check out Thor at the Empty Glass. THOR, the original rock warrior, flies into town to put on one of the most outrageous shows you'll see. “No one rocks like the mighty Thor." - Henry Rollins. A heroic inspiration for performance rockers like GWAR, THOR the showman flexes his non-foam muscles. He's like the Wayne Newton of ancient Viking berserker rock gods. Check a sample concert clip: http://www.imvf.com/cinestir/Rock_Videos/THOR_ANGER_QT_1.mov

Don't forget to take a minute or two to say Goodbye to good ole' Watt Powell Park. Ribfest will be its final hurrah.

As always feel free to stop by the Empty Glass Saturday or Sunday from 4-9 and have me serve you up a refreshing icy cold beverage.
